This piece from 2016 is a great read - understanding crypto assets in plain language. Maybe if we have censorship resistance, we will be different. Maybe we are afraid of expressing ourselves freely in social media, maybe we are masking our natural reaction to not score negatively in some algorithm and be banned or censored, maybe we are consuming and buying things slightly different than what we would actually want. Maybe lot of us are acting differently because we fear censorship. I think of these questions as being highly skeuomorphic - our ability to imagine new possibilities is limited by our tendency to draw parallels with current state of things. There are similar questions now - who would want censorship resistance? Propagandists, immoral, obscene elements?

We are near that tipping point where people will want censorship resistance. This is one of the key things decentralization promises. It is about people starting to get that feeling of privacy and security on the internet like we get in our homes.Ĭensorship resistance, as the name suggests, is the difficulty of centralized companies censoring your content. People didn’t care about encrypted messaging earlier - who would want it except criminals? Now we are flocking Telegram, Signal, and we were concerned when there was a certain change in WhatsApp’s privacy policy.
